What is Color Harmony?
Color harmony refers to the pleasing arrangement of colors that work well together. Based on color theory and the color wheel, harmonious color combinations create visual balance and aesthetic appeal in design. Our color harmony generator uses mathematical relationships between hues to create professionally balanced color schemes from any starting color.
Whether you're designing a website, creating a brand identity, or working on digital art, understanding color harmony helps you make informed decisions about which colors to combine for maximum visual impact.
Types of Color Harmonies
Complementary Colors
Colors opposite each other on the color wheel (180° apart). Creates high contrast and vibrant looks. Best for making elements stand out.
Analogous Colors
Colors adjacent on the color wheel (30° apart). Creates serene, comfortable designs. Common in nature and pleasing to the eye.
Triadic Colors
Three colors evenly spaced on the wheel (120° apart). Offers strong visual contrast while maintaining balance and richness.
Split Complementary
A color plus two colors adjacent to its complement. Provides high contrast without the tension of direct complements.
Tetradic (Rectangle)
Four colors forming a rectangle on the wheel. Rich color palette that works best with one dominant color.
Square Colors
Four colors evenly spaced (90° apart). Similar to tetradic but with equal spacing, creating a balanced, vibrant palette.
